It hasn't been quite three weeks in Japan yet and I'm really exhausted. In the best way of course.
I had my enkai yesterday with all the people at my work and it was awesome. Although, eating dried persimmon cubes with butter sandwiched between the slices are a bit odd and fatty. :D
It was quite funny because my Japanese friends drove me home, and expressed surprised I left my front porch lights on.
Friends: "Why???" they both yelled in exasperation.
Me: " Um...because it's dark and it's for safety when I come home by myself in the dark?" I replied as if it was common sense.
Friends: " What a waste of electricity!!! It's very safe here!!"
Friends and Me: " HAHAHAH!!"
Then I explained it's pretty common where I'm from cause it's can help prevent 'things' from happening. I guess where I live it's normal to come home in complete darkness...heee. Cross cultural learning at it's best!
I'm so glad it Friday because I just want to crash and sleep. My body has finally caught up with my brain, and understands its frazzled to and I've started to break out in pimples!! haha.
I'm at the phase of moving to a new life, new job and new country where I'm beginning to miss really basic things like:
1. Sugar that is actually sweet - Japanese sugar is pretty bland compared to Australian sugar
2. I miss fizzy drink that is fizzy - the soft drinks here even if they are the same brand and flavour as overseas, it adjusted to suit local tastes. So the sofdrinks here are less sugary (good thing) but less fizzy (bad thing).
3. I miss breads that isn't sweetened - Japanese sandwich bread is good but it's usually sweeter than normal bread in Oz
4. I miss eating chocolate that's sweet and creamy enough to instantly give me cavities. :D
5. I miss being able to binge out on junk food that satiates me - I've binged out twice in Japan now...and the junk food here just doesn't have the 'OMG I've going to die and go to heaven' factor. It's difficult to explain but I still feel reallllly empty even after I've binged.
As much as I miss certain things, I wouldn't change where I am for the world.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Hey all.
Ok, for those of you that know about my semi-life, I've now been in Japan for 8 days. I'm posted in a very rural area of Tokushima next to mountains and the sea. It's a lovely little village with one tiny supermarket and lots of ojii-chans and obaa-chans.
I landed on Wednesday at my destination at 12:30pm (after lots of transfers and timmmeee) and was taken to the town hall and Board of Education to meet everyone. I didn't get to my place until 6:30pm, feeling very tired with no luggage...which had to be sent by courier cause it was too heavy to take on the domestic flight from Narita!! lol. Lucky I took one t-shirt and a pants our of my suitcase before it was taken away. Alas, when I jumped into the shower I realized I didn't have a towel...lucky I dropped off at the convenience stores for some toiletries! In the end, I had to wipe my self with the dirty t-shirt I'd worn for the past 16 hours!! haha.
I love my traditional 1LDK apartment and the beautiful shoji sliding doors are wonderful...until I stuck my finger through it my first night there. T.T
Thursday I went around trying to get a bank account set-up with my supervisor - which is a mean feat if you don't have an alien registration card (those who've lived in Japan will know what I mean!).
Anyhoo, I'm a bit tired and will update whenever I have a bit of energy.
Friday lots of meetings.
Thank god it was a long weekend so I managed to chill for one day, and went shopping for essentials for my apartment on Sat and Monday. By this I mean, having to rely on some wonderful people in my area to drive me 40mins to the nearest decent sized town!! haha.
C ya.

Hi everyone.
This may be more appropriate to UK users, but I'm looking for words that could be used for a fic I'm thinking about.
The character is female - in her late 20s. What words or typical expressions (when she is angry, upset, depressed et al) would she use that clearly identifies her having lived in the UK? I don't many many and would dearly love any advice.
I love love love
tempname28's 'ijiot' which I would love to use with your permission of course. Any other suggestions?
I've heard bahmy/balmy??? I think that's suppose to mean nuts???
All suggestions greatly appreciated. :D

| You do not feel nervous in social situations, and have a good impression of what others think of you, however you feel strong cravings and urges that you have difficulty resisting. You tend to prefer short-term pleasures and rewards over long-term consequences. You lead a leisurely and relaxed life. You would prefer to sit back and smell the roses than indulge in high energy activities. You tend not to express your emotions openly and are sometimes not even aware of your own feelings. You dislike confrontations and are perfectly willing to compromise or to deny your own needs in order to get along with others, however you do not particularly like helping other people. Requests for help feel like an imposition on your time. You strive hard to achieve excellence. Your drive to be recognized as successful keeps you on track toward your lofty goals. You often have a strong sense of direction in life, but may sometimes be too single-minded and obsessed with your work. |

Ohhh....just saw Iron Man yesterday!
Must admit the effects for the 'bot suit is AWESOME! Robert Downey wasn't bad either I must admit!!
Enjoyed it heaps though it doesn't compare to Transformers movie.
I watched right to the end of the credits as
sylverice2 suggested and gees....I swear Nick Fury was caucasian in the comics right? Oh things could have changed since I last read!? LOL.
Can't wait to see the next one, and for me, any shiny robot rocks!
Ah! Only peeve about the movie....Gweneth Paltrow. Yeeeeeessshh, she was rather bland. :D
